A Homemade Holiday Pairing: Chex Mix and Wine

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Chex®. The opinions and text are all mine.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

And by most wonderful time of year, I mean the time of year where you basically get 2 weeks of work off in the month of December and have a legitimate reason to eat and drink a ton. It’s also a time to enjoy family and friends and did I mention eat and drink?

Since we’ve established that I love to eat and drink, I was thinking of a way to change up the traditional wine and food pairings. We always see wine and cheese or wine and meats, but what about wine and our favorite snacks? When I say snacks I mean like pretzels, chips and Chex Mix. Hmmm, Chex Mix and Wine?

I think we’re onto something here.

Chex Mix and wine is the newest and hottest holiday wine pairing and you heard it on Chel Loves Wine first!

So today, we’re pairing Chex Caramel Chocolate Drizzles with a Demi-Sec Champagne. Demi-sec means “medium dry” so this would be a moderately sweet Champagne. This complements the creaminess of the caramel. It’s always best to pair sweet with sweet when it comes to chocolate and caramel. So I figured, why not make the sweet wine bubbly too? It is the holidays after all.

Thankfully, this Chex Mix recipe is SO easy and only requires a microwave and maybe 15 minutes of your time. This means even those of you who only enter the kitchen to refill your glass of wine can make this.

Here’s how I made it.

I was in Florida visiting my mom when I made this so I went to Publix and picked up all of my ingredients, which included Corn Chex cereal, Rice Chex cereal, caramels, butter, milk and some semi-sweet chocolate chips. Side note, does anyone else love a nice super market? I love grocery shopping to start with, so if you give me a nice clean supermarket, I may never leave. Ok, back to business…

I then poured myself a glass of wine (duh) and started the process. In one microwaveable bowl I mixed both of the cereals together.

In another bowl I mixed the caramel, milk and butter together and put it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes (stirring every minute) until it was melted and smooth.

I then poured the caramel mixture over the cereals mixture and stirred it together! Then it went back into the microwave until it started to brown, which took 2-3 more minutes, while stirring every minute.

Then I simply laid the mixture out on wax paper to cool.

While it’s cooling, I melted chocolate in the microwave and then drizzled it over the caramel cereal mixture. (I did this via Ziploc® bag that I filled with the melted chocolate and snipped the corner off)

I then refrigerated the mix until everything was set (about 1-2 hours)! I then removed my masterpiece from the refrigerator, poured myself (another) glass of bubbly and snacked away.

This treat is the perfect way to start your holiday party. You can also totally give this as a gift. Just think about how impressive you will look if you show up with a homemade snack and the perfect wine accompaniment? People will definitely think you’re succeeding at adulting.

Bonus: since we’re all babes on a budget here, I found some coupons for you to save, save, save.  Get $1 off any 3 Chex Cereals 12-14 oz. from 12/10-1/6, and BOGO offer from 12/14-12/21.
